Choosing A Righteous Course - How Much Do You Want Victory? - Friday, March 3rd
For if these qualities (faith, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love) are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. 2 Peter 1:8-11
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him …. Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 1:5 & 3:13-18
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
The admonishment of Scripture is not meant to beat us down but to give us hope. God has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness by His precious and magnificent promises. The victory can be ours and God is waiting for us to abandon ourselves in full surrender to Him and His ways. If victory is really what we want, then victory is what we will have. Victory has been granted so if we do not have victory, then we do not really want it. No matter how you try to spin it and put the cause for defeat somewhere else, this is really the heart of the matter. So, our hope lies in the fact that victory can be ours for the asking. Jesus, said that we do not have because we do not ask. Ask and we will receive.
In our James passage, we see the root problem of selfishness and how it leads to disorder and every evil thing. It is the influence of other sources of wisdom that supports and influences our selfish will and desires so that the course of our lives goes haywire and we crash on the rocks. But our great God above gives Himself to us and His gentle wisdom so that the fruit of (his) righteousness is produced in us with resulting good behavior for all to see. This is victory indeed!
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I choose the course of righteousness, the one only path for life as you meant it to be. I believe you are giving me the victory over selfishness and all the wrong desires and behaviors that go with it. I believe in your precious and magnificent promises. I go forward aligned with you, your Word, and your people. I love and worship you, my Lord and Master. Amen!
