Christmas Assurance – Divine Intervention - Tuesday, December 24th

Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation .... Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him. Psalm 33:8-11; 20-21

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

We began this week’s Christmas Devotionals yesterday with a look at a Decree by the ruler of the known world over two thousand years ago. We noted that the God of heaven commandeered this command by the most powerful man in the world of that day to accomplish purposes far greater and far more lasting than the Roman Empire itself. Through his subtle intervention, God causes a baby to born to Mary and Joseph in the tiny town of Bethlehem on that first Christmas.

Using a census as the means for a baby to be born at just the right moment, in just the right way, and in just the right place doesn't seem like a very big deal. Who this baby really is and what he came to do make all the difference. This baby is God in the flesh who came to seek and to save that which was lost. Instead of a palace and a scepter there was a manger and a cross. The cast of characters on the stage of Christ's birth were lowly and few. However, down through the ages since, millions (in the words of today's Psalm) have come to "fear the Lord" and "stand in awe of Him." Truly, "the counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation."

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, thank you for your subtle intervention so long ago that continues to change the hearts and lives of people everywhere. You are my Lord and Savior. I bless you and trust you. Like the Psalmist, I say, "my soul waits for you, Lord; You are my help and my shield. For my heart rejoices in You." Amen!
