Christmas Assurance - Divine Redirection - Thursday, December 22nd

But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me. Make Your face to shine upon Your servant; Save me in Your lovingkindness. Psalm 31:14-16

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

The words of the Psalmist in today's verses could easily be the words of Mary and Joseph. As they are about to set out on their journey to Bethlehem, can't you just hear them saying prayerfully to God, "But as for us, we trust in You, O Lord. You are our God. Our times are in Your hand." Even before the decree, there was a lot of upheaval and uncertainty in their lives with the Divine pregnancy of Mary. While angelic visitations had given them some insight and understanding, there remained so much that was mysterious and uncertain for them. And now with this journey, the spot they are at in their lives is one of total redirection and change.

Whether this Christmas finds us at a spot of redirection and change or not, it is prudent for us to be prepared. How readily we latch onto the following expectations: We want the things in our lives we like, to remain, we want things we don't like, to disappear, we want the things we like that are missing, to show up, and we want the things that are not in our lives that we don't like, to stay away. Now expectations are not wrong, but locking onto them brings a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering. When we are locked onto our expectations, it means we are trying to have it be that our "times" are in our own hands. Being prepared for redirection and change is all about being at a spot where we can truly join the Psalmist and come before the Lord saying, "But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand." When we are at this spot, it means we are always ready to leave "Nazareth" for a journey to "Bethlehem."

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, "Make Your face to shine upon Your servant" as I let go of the grip I have on my expectations and experience the freedom of one who truly knows "my times are in Your hand." Thank you what you are doing this Christmas season to "Save me in Your lovingkindness" from being wrapped up in myself. I choose to be wrapped up in you and to be a person of "mobility" for "wherever you want me" and "whatever you want for me." Amen!

I'd really appreciate it.
