May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. (Ephesians 3:19)
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress. O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love. (Psalm 59:16-17)
I am so thankful for the story of Louis Zamperini that Pastor Ben shared. There is one part of the account of his conversion and transformation that gives us exactly what we need at this point. We are told that, essentially, he was so overwhelmed by the grace and love of God that his hate, hurts, and entrenched habits could not stay because they could not co-exist with the grace and love that flooded his heart and life. The insight this brings must not escape us. Are we willing to be overwhelmed by the grace and love of God? If our hate, hurts, and entrenched habits hang on year after year, it is because there is room for them in our hearts and life because we have not been filled - and overwhelmed - with the grace and love of God.
"Lord, we confess that we are incomplete because of the presence of bad things in our lives. We also confess that our experience with your presence and love is incomplete because we choose those bad things over you and your love. We cry out to you Lord to wash over our being with your presence and love to such an extent that it becomes impossible for the bad things in our lives to stay. We trust you for this miracle of love and grace in our lives, Lord God. Amen."
