Detour Teen Ministry offers a variety of opportunities for teens from 7th - 12th grade. Every Thursday night at 6 pm, teens will find the Detour teen service - complete with food, friends, video games in the Detour Café, music, and the life-changing messages of the Bible. Detour also meets on Sunday mornings for Bible study. There are also many special events and trips offered throughout the year.
General skills/attributes required for all positions: a desire to work with teenagers, general working knowledge of the Bible, patience, flexibility, sense of humor. Required to have CORI background check and to adhere to the Child Protection Guidelines as outlined by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Should be knowledgeable in first aid and CPR, although not a requirement.

Senior High School Leader
Works in collaboration with Youth Director to serve the needs of children in grades 9-12, especially with Detour (devotions, activities, events). Serves as a mentor to children in grades 9-12, being aware and involved in the day-to-day lives of the children. Also attends Detour Thursday night program.
Junior High School Leader
Works in collaboration with youth director to serve the needs of children in grades 6-8, especially with Detour (devotions, activities, events). Serves as a mentor to children in grades 6-8, being aware and involved in the day-to-day lives of the children. Also attends Detour Thursday night program.
Senior Camp Counselor
Attends week-long Bible camp in the summer to supervise children attending from Cape Cod Church. It is helpful to have previous camp experience.
Sunday Bible Study Leader
Collaborates with youth director and senior pastor to develop bible study curriculum, leads youth Bible Study on Sunday mornings, and serves as a mentor to the youth of Cape Cod Church
Detour Leader
Oversees flow of Detour program on Thursday nights and greets children as they arrive for program.
Detour Café Leader
Responsible for all aspects of running the Detour Café (buys food, sets up, prepares food, cleans up café), spots trends to keep food selections in tune with what the children like, and ensures that the Café remains self-sustaining.
Detour Band Leader
Coordinates practice sessions, rehearsals leading up to Detour on Thursdays. Collaborates with worship leader and youth leader to identify music for Detour band. Prepares music for band parts, mapping out chord progressions and providing lyrics for singers. Should have music background (plays instrument, understands music theory)
Detour Band Member
Jams during Detour worship time. Members should be able to play an instrument (guitar, bass, drums, percussion, or keyboard), attend practice sessions, rehearsals, Detour on Thursdays, and commit to practicing songs at home to prepare for rehearsals. Members should have comfort being on stage in front of an audience
Detour Singer
Sings during Detour worship time. Members should be able to sing (alto/soprano/tenor/bass) in key and pitch providing harmony and blend support for worship music, bring energy and enthusiasm from stage to involve congregation, attend practice sessions, rehearsals and Detour on Thursdays, and commit to practicing songs at home to prepare for rehearsals. Members should have comfort being on stage in front of an audience.
Detour Song Research Coordinator
Assists Detour band leader in identifying music for Detour band, spots trends in contemporary Christian music scene, specifically for music targeted for children in grades 6-12.
Detour Special Events Coordinator
Assists with activities outside of the Thursday night Detour program, such as the Barnstable County Fair performance and other local activities by the Detour band and drama team. Also works with youth director to identify opportunities outside of the church to provide learning and application of biblical principles.
Detour Drama Leader
Collaborates with youth director to create activities for teaching biblical principles and lessons to Detour attendees. Also leads drama sessions during Detour on Thursdays. The leader should be comfortable being on stage in front of an audience.
Detour Publicity & Promotion Coordinator
Helps get the word out about programs and services of the Detour ministry. Creates flyers, powerpoint slides, and other promotional tools to advertise Detour, Detour band, Detour drama team, Senior camp, and other special events for the youth of the church, as well as identifies publicity opportunities within the church and in the community to provide outreach for all youth-based activities.
Detour Ministry Member
Assists with activities during Detour, helping where needed.
