Faithful Servants - Dominated by the Kingdom and Not Things - Monday, November 20th
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
This statement of Jesus was said in the context of a lesson he gave on “Worry.” Just after saying to His hearers that one cannot serve God and wealth, he tells them that they should not be worried about their lives. When we are preoccupied with such physical concerns as food, drink, clothing, etc., we are serving wealth. Jesus points out that our Heavenly Father knows we have need of such things and that they will be added to us if we seek His kingdom and His righteousness first and are thus preoccupied with serving Him. How easily wealth and the physical things of life that wealth provides dominate our lives. Speaking of himself and his fellow believers the apostle Paul declared, “the love of Christ controls us.” He was saying that Christ’s love for them and their love for Christ dominated them. We must be dominated by the love of Christ and not the things of this world. When we are, we will be true servants of God who readily spread the love of Christ in faithful service to Him and His kingdom. This is the focus of this week’s Devotionals.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, It’s so hard to properly blend spiritual life with physical life. I am tired of material things being too prominent in my life. Show me how get things right. I choose to become a faithful servant whose life is dominated by your kingdom and not material things. Lord, I love you, worship you, and surrender to you. Amen!
