Frame – Provision of Security – The Necessity of Complete Reliance - Saturday, July 25th

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. Psalm 37:23-24

The Lord rescues the godly; he is their fortress in times of trouble. The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them, and they find shelter in him. Psalm 37:39-40

On their arrival in Capernaum, the collectors of the Temple tax came to Peter and asked him, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the Temple tax?” “Yes, he does,” Peter replied. Then he went into the house. But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him, "What do you think, Peter? Do kings tax their own people or the people they have conquered?" “They tax the people they have conquered,” Peter replied. “Well, then,” Jesus said, “the citizens are free! However, we don’t want to offend them, so go down to the lake and throw in a line. Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a large silver coin. Take it and pay the tax for both of us." Matthew 17:24-27

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

By reading the entire story all at once from the Matthew passage above and then thinking about the passages above from Psalm 37, it becomes vividly clear that the practice of turning to Jesus immediately with whatever it is we face and then waiting on him as our fortress and shelter and letting him take care of things however and whenever he sees fits, makes absolute sense. As Colossians 3:3 says, "Your real life is hidden with Christ in God." We are truly secure, protected, and safe in Christ (this is who we are) and we can always count on him to deal with anything that threatens our sense of security that we have in him.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, I thank you for the security, protection, and safety that you have provided for me. I ask you to release me from those things from my past that I have carried into my relationship with you that interfere with me going forward in the fullness of all you have in store for me. Place me more squarely in the center of your grace so that your love, acceptance, security, protection, and safety can help me change and become all that I really am in Christ. (This is the prayer response from Monday's Devotional, but it is certainly a fitting expression to God for wrapping up our week) Amen!
