Frame – Realization of Significance – Content in God’s Care - Thursday, July 30th
And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! Matthew 18:13
In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away! Luke 15:7
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:1-6
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
God's response to our being lost demonstrates that we matter to him. God's response to our being found demonstrates that we were worth rescuing. What a powerful thing it is to know that we are significant to God. How convinced are you that you matter a lot to God? How convinced are you that you are worth a lot to God? The goal of learning to live in the reality of our being significant to God is that we become sheep that are content in the care of our Heavenly Shepherd to the degree that we never, ever wander away again. Read through the 23rd Psalm again with two thoughts: (1) because you are significant to your Heavenly Shepherd, he seeks to give you a life that is abundant and overflowing as the result of his outrageous care. (2) the abundant and overflowing life that comes as the result of his outrageous care gives you an amazing sense of personal significance and meaning that makes you wander proof.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, forgive me for undervaluing what it means for me to be a sheep under your care. I see that I have hardly scratched the surface of grasping how much you love and care for me. I am truly sorry for all my wandering away from you and all my pursuing of such puny sources of significance, worth, and fulfillment found in the world. I want a life lived knowing and experiencing your transforming presence that conforms me to the image of Christ more and more each day. Help me receive from you more fully than ever before the abundant and overflowing life of living fully for you and all that matters so much to you. Amen!
