So they concluded, “Our only chance of finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion.” Daniel 6:5

Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:26-31

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:17-19

Daniel was a man who lived a life of absolute surrender and devotion to God and his ways. The other administrators and high officers under King Darius are about to develop a scheme to undue Daniel and the King's plans for him that will utilize Daniel's personal religious practice. It is not unusual for people who live for God to experience spiritual opposition. Daniel's calling is tied in first and foremost with God's kingdom. His involement with the kingdom of King Darius is secondary. The pressure to yield to his opposition is much less a force in Daniel's life than being faithful to God and his calling. The passages above say much about the calling God has on our lives. We must be sure that we fully understand, embrace, and treasure God's calling on our lives so that we can be like Daniel and be faithful to that calling no matter what.

Lord, you know where we are in regard to understanding, embracing, and treasuring your calling on our lives. Please do a work of bringing us to the place of full surrender to you and the calling you have for us. Help us to live fully for you and your kingdom even in the face of stiff spiritual opposition. Thank you for the priviledge of belonging to you and being a part of your kingdom. Lord, I love you, I worship you, and I surrender to you an your calling on my life.
