God's Christmas Gift - Jesus Christ Our Creator - Thursday, December 1st
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. Colossians 1:16
Today's thoughts from today's verse:
Perhaps you recall the term, the "elixir of life." The "elixir of life" was often used to describe a potion filled bottle peddled by traveling salesmen. These "elixir of life" potions had a many, many things that were supposed to be true of them. These salesmen would go from town to town (often in sideshow type wagons) conning susceptible townspeople of their hard earned money all because they wanted a cure all for whatever ailed them. We want to borrow a couple of things from this recollection from the past as we continue to discover all that God's Christmas gift, Jesus Christ, is to us. So far we have seen that Jesus Christ, God’s gift to us, is our “Savior,” our “Head,” and our “Completion.”
Today's verse adds something that's true of Christ that we might not readily associate with him. It says, "by Him all things were created." It really is true that Jesus Christ created everything. Let's bring this closer to home. God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, made you. Yes, Jesus Christ made you and therefore knows all that is needed to take complete care of you. He knows every aspect of who you are and exactly what it is that makes you tick. Because he made you he is fully committed to your welfare and care. This means that Jesus Christ is the "elixir of life" and is good for whatever ails you. Aren't you glad that "Creator" is on the list of things that are true of Jesus Christ, God's glorious Christmas gift to us? Oh how we need the tender loving care of Jesus Christ and there is a whole world of people out there that need his tender loving care in a big way as well.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I know you are the Creator and my Maker. But today I know it even more so. I fall back into your arms of love and care and rest there. I am beyond glad that everything on the list of who you are is completely true and reliable. Thank you for giving yourself to me fully and completely. I bow to you in total surrender and dependence. This Christmas season please provide very special ways for me to help others discover the greatest Christmas gift of all. Amen!
