God's Christmas Gift - Jesus Christ Our Savior - Monday, November 28th
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15
Today's thoughts from today's verse:
Today's verse is the last verse of a passage that is all about "giving." We looked at this passage last week as we wrapped up our series on "Missions" and considered the necessity of our being generous, giving participants in God's mission to the world. Today's verse speaks of the gift of God's son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to the world. Jesus Christ, God's gift to the world, is the centerpiece of his mission to the world. We have moved from a series on missions to a series on Christmas. Today's verse provides a great transition because God's mission to the world begins with the gift of his Son and the gift of God's Son is what Christmas is all about.
Our verse says that Jesus Christ is indescribable. This does not mean that he cannot be described. The Scriptures wonderfully describe who he is and what he has done for us. So then, what does our verse mean when it speaks of the gift of God's Son as being indescribable? There are two things. The first has to do with Jesus Christ himself. He is indescribable in the sense that he cannot be "fully" described. This is because he is God and the greatness of who he is goes way beyond human words and understandings. The second has to do with his being a gift. It is just a way of fully conveying to us how magnificent, wonderful, and perfect the gift of God's Son to us really is.
For those of us who have already received the gift of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, Christmas is an amazing time. But it can be an even more amazing time for us if we keep in mind that Jesus is one gift we do not keep to ourselves. Jesus is ours to share because he is God’s gift to everyone. Throughout the week we will discover more fully the amazing gift Jesus Christ is to us and how we can help others receive the indescribable gift of Jesus Christ.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I ask you to reveal yourself to me in ways that really click for me. Show me enough to satisfy my longings and alleviate my doubts about being able to know you. May the reality that there is so much more to know of you, leave me filled with wonder, awe, and a hunger to know you even better. May it motivate and enable me to share you with others in the best possible ways. Lord, I love you and worship you. Amen!
