"God's Guidance and Worship" - Tuesday, September 6th
But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:23-24
A Today's thoughts from today's verses:
We are focusing today on the difference between treating God as a “resource” and treating God as our “source.” When God is merely a “resource” to us it is because we have a half-baked faith so to speak. We want to get in on “God,” but on our terms. We are caught up in what he can do for us. We are in it for the benefits we can derive. Life can get pretty complicated and difficult to navigate through as things come fast and furious. It is often the heat of the moment that compels people to turn to God. This is particularly true when it comes to the need for guidance and direction. Countless people turn to God to show them the way, but in reality it is merely for having God “help them out” with “their lives” and little more.
Understanding God as our “source” is what today’s Scripture is all about. Our Heavenly Father is looking for true worshipers. True worshipers are in it for what God gets out of it. They understand the “truth” that they were made to “exist for God and his glory” and not the other way around. True worshipers can say, “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” and have it be an absolutely true expression of their heart and life. Instead of God being a resource to “help them out” with “their lives,” they truly “revere” God and give him the central place in their lives. God becomes the source from which “his will” is accomplished in their lives instead of their “own will.”
When God has the central place in our lives, he establishes an amazing “spiritual” connection with us. It is out of this “spiritual” connection with us that God accomplishes his will in and through our lives. This is what God being the source of our lives is all about and when it happens we become true worshipers who worship the Father in spirit and truth. Seeking guidance and direction from God is all about gaining insight for what he is doing in our lives and making sure we stay in step with him as we pursue the path of his will and his glory.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I know that half-baked isn’t good enough when it comes to my faith in you. I want to be a true worshiper who worships you in spirit and truth. I get the difference between “resource” and “source.” Forgive me for all the shallow ways I have sought you in the past. Help me to go forward seeking you, your will, and your amazing work of enabling me to live fully for you. Amen!
