How God Communicates – The Provision of Genuine Spiritual Counsel - Thursday, April 4th
Note: At church and in these Devotionals we are on an adventure called 90 Days with Jesus that will culminate at Easter. Throughout this adventure we are considering the amazing stories of the Master Teacher and Storyteller, Jesus Christ. This week’s Devotionals will not specifically deal with this week’s story. The story of the “Sower and the Seed” is all about God communicating and our responding to him. We are borrowing a Devotional set from the past that similarly deals with God communicating with us. We hope this week’s Devotionals will serve to compliment the story of the “Sower and the Seed” and be a blessing to you.
Where there is no guidance the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory …. Without consultation, plans are frustrated, but with many counselors they succeed …. Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days. Proverbs 11:14, 15:22, 19:20
Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances. Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear …. Like a bad tooth and an unsteady foot is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble. Proverbs 25:11-12, 19
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
If you were a participant in the religious system that existed when Jesus came into the world and you were looking for someone to help you hear from God, you would likely go to a religious expert steeped in God’s word and religious matters. However, if you recall, it is possible for someone to be extremely steeped in Scripture and religious matters and at the same time to have missed God. It is a person’s connection to God Himself that makes all the difference. I would rather find spiritual support from someone who is newer on their journey with Scripture and religious matters but has at the same time entered into the realm of communion and fellowship with God than with someone who has had a lifetime of involvement with Scripture and religious matters without a significant “communion and fellowship” connection with God.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I do not want to end up being pseudo-spiritual like the Scribes and Pharisees. Please guard me from the counsel of other people who are already in this boat and connect me to those who truly know and experience your presence consistently. I know that spiritual counsel from others is a part of how you work in my life. I know you will help me to be open, discerning, and receptive to the godly counsel of others. Amen!
