Jesus Christ, the One and Only – Provides Actual Salvation - Wednesday, February 26th

I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So, I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. Romans 7:15-19

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of the people, if we are on trial today for a benefit done to a sick man, as to how this man has been made well, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by this name this man stands here before you in good health. He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief corner stone. And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:8-12

For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life ….You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth. But the testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. He was the lamp that was burning and was shining and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me. John 5:22-24, 33-36

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

When one gets to the spot where they are intellectually honest about Christianity being radically different, they are ready to be intellectually honest about their personal sinful condition and their need for the provision offered in Christ that alone can make the difference. The Romans passage above is Paul’s own description of himself facing up to the reality of his sinful condition and his helplessness to do anything about it through his own self-sufficiency. Self-sufficiency is the hallmark of all other “faith” systems. Even if they denounce self-sufficiency, they offer nothing but self-sufficiency for overcoming self-deficiency because they offer no Savior who can truly deliver us from the dead-end street of self-reliance. Facing up to the reality that we can personally do nothing for ourselves about the penalty and power of sinfulness, puts us in the place of being able to rely on Jesus Christ and the radical provision and solution that He alone is able to offer us and all of mankind.

There is salvation in no one else but Jesus Christ. It is in His name that our deepest needs are addressed fully and completely. Through faith in Jesus Christ who died, was buried, and was raised from the dead, we have eternal life. In Him we have passed out of death and into life and thereby escape judgment. The same name, Jesus Christ, through which a lame man was healed, is the same name we utterly rely upon for the healing of our souls and for eternal salvation. Other “faith” systems focus on problems and solutions that are of little value for addressing the deepest needs of our souls and preparing us for eternity.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, I know there is nothing I could ever do to overcome the penalty and power of sin. I also know that you and you alone, Jesus, did overcome the penalty and power of sin. Thank you for bringing me to the place of relying totally on you and your radical provision of actual salvation. Thank you for healing my soul and preparing me for eternity. Amen!
