Lasting Spiritual Fulfillment – Letting God Purify Us Fully - Wednesday, July 3rd

People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Proverbs 28:13

Physical punishment cleanses away evil; such discipline purifies the heart. Proverbs 20:30

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. Romans 5:3-4

How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered! How blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit! When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Psalm 32:1-5

Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin …. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow …. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Psalm 51:1-2, 7B, 10-12

It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons …. He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Hebrews 12:7A, 10B-11

Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 2 Timothy 1:8-10

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

God is a redeeming and restorative God. This means He loves to take things as they are, purify them, and make them into what they can become. And this means that at any given moment we need to be in touch with where we are so that we can acknowledge that reality before Him. This allows God to do the redeeming and restorative work that is needed. This process of discipline that God takes us through increasingly produces His holiness and righteousness in us. This is a holy calling that he purposed for us in eternity before we came into being. Now that is a high calling indeed, beyond which there are no purposes that yield greater significance and fulfillment. We need to understand this and align ourselves with the goal God has of fully making us into pure and holy people. Truly there is nothing more satisfying.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, you redeemed me and made me your own through the gift of salvation. I praise you and thank you for this. But, I know you did this in order to transform my life and I do not want to settle for a life that is anything less than one that is increasingly becoming the pure and holy life you have in mind for me. Lord, I give myself to you freely and fully. Amen!
