May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:19-20
I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. John 15:9
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. 2 Corinthians 5:14
For most of us life gives us a strong sense of "becoming." It is hard to think there really is anyone out there who actually thinks they have arrived and there is no more "becoming" needed. On the other hand many of us despair that our "becoming" process will ever get us anywhere near where we need to be. The idea of "becoming" is captured by the phrase "be made complete" in the Ephesians passage above. It says we will "be made complete" but only if we have an ongoing experience with the love of Christ. The passage reveals to us that it is in midst of our experiencing the love of Christ that we receive from God the fullness of life and power we need to be made complete. It even says that God has "more" he can accomplish in our "becoming" that we can imagine. The "more" we need is the "more" that is available from God for our "becoming" all he desires us to be. And so there is "hope." We are beginning a series about "Hope" and it is the love Christ has for us that gives us a firm foundation to build on.
Lord, I confess I have a long way to go in regard to "becoming" what you want me to be. Deliver me from going in any direction but to you and the experience of your love. Here I am, Lord. Show me your love like I have never seen it before. I believe "experiencing your love" needs to be the foundation of my life. Grant me a sense of surety that you will bring me into the sphere of your love for an experience with you like I have never known before.
