Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. Daniel 3:16
The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD will be exalted. Proverbs 29:25
Into Your hand, I commit my spirit; You have ransomed me, O LORD, God of truth. I hate those who regard vain idols, but I trust in the LORD. I will rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindness, because You have seen my affliction; You have known the troubles of my soul, and You have not given me over into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a large place. Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress. Psalm 31:5-9A
But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD, I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me. Make Your face to shine upon Your servant; save me in Your lovingkindness. Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I call upon You. Psalm 31:14-17A
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
The pressure from the people around us can feel quite intense at times. Obviously, Daniel’s friends were experiencing unbelievable pressure from the people surrounding them. In the Psalm, David describes the influence of the people around him. Often, David’s experiences, recounted in the Psalms, foreshadow the coming Messiah’s experience of suffering at the hands of the people who would surround him. And of course, we now know what it was that Jesus Christ experienced at the hands of people – the Cross of Calvary. Daniel’s friends, David, and Jesus our Messiah were all impacted by those around them, but in the midst of it all, they chose to go forward in the peace and comfort of God’s presence. All the while they trusted Him for the help they needed to be victorious.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, it is very comforting that you see my afflictions and know the troubles of my soul. Thank you for caring and thank you for how you are at work on my behalf. Right when I need it most, Your lovingkindness shines upon my face like the warmth of the sun and I am at peace. I know you will deliver me from those who misuse me. “You are my God” and “my times are in your hand.” “Into your hand, I commit my spirit.” Amen!
