Responding To Distress – Choosing to Turn to the Safety of God’s Presence - Monday, November 18th
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress. O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love. Psalm 59:16-17
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
In today’s Scripture we have these words from the Psalmist: “When I am in distress.” If it were you saying, “When I am in distress,” what words would come next for you? The Psalmist begins the passage with the words, “But as for me.” It is as if he saying that everyone has a choice to make when they are in distress, and I have made my choice of what I will do “when I am in distress.” The Psalmist chooses to turn to God and speak to him words of faith and dependence. He says, “I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety …. O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.” Truly “our response to times of distress” must be modeled after the response of the Psalmist.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, fill me with the joy of your presence. Put a song in my heart that helps me begin each day with an awareness of your power, unfailing love and strength that is more real to me than any and all distressing circumstances. Lord, truly you are my refuge and place of safety and for that I give you abundant praise. Amen!
