O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer! From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings! For you have heard my vows, O God. You have given me an inheritance reserved for those who fear your name. Psalm 61:1-5
Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help. Protect me, for I am devoted to you. Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God. Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am calling on you constantly. Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you. O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord; hear my urgent cry. I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me. Psalm 86:1-7
God is our towering rock of safety, our safe refuge, our fortress, our sanctuary, and our shelter of wings. Getting prayer right means that we experience him in these ways for his glory and our good. As we give ourselves to him in the practice of daily prayer we will come to know him better and better and he will become the centerpiece of our praying and our living.
Lord, we ask that you will become more real to us than the troubles that come our way and far too often overwhelm us. Thank you for your help, your protection, your mercy, your goodness, your forgiveness, and your unfailing love. Help us to keep praying and calling out to you. Grant that we remain devoted to you and the constant pursuit of living fully for you. Amen
