Saturday, January 2nd

But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (NLT)

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

Today's Scripture gives us the final part of our 2 Corinthians passage. This final part is actually an addition to the middle part of the passage from yesterday, where we saw three things: (1) we are those who have had the veil removed; (2) as ones who have had the veil removed we are free to behold God's glory; and (3) as ones who behold God's glory, we reflect his glory. But there is actually something in between "beholding God's glory" and "reflecting God's glory" and today's Scripture gives it to us with these words, "the Spirit makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image." So now it looks like this: when the veil is removed, we behold the glory of God, we are changed by the glory of God, and we reflect the glory of God.

The Holy Spirit works to make us more like Christ as we are changed in the glorious image of Christ. In regard to God's glory, beholding leads to being transformed and being transformed leads to reflecting. Reflecting God's glory leads to others turning to the Lord and be reconnected to him so that this glory cycle can take place in their lives as well. And on and on it goes as God wonderfully advances his glorious kingdom here on earth.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, I see that it all comes down to my seeking you in the sanctuary of personal prayer where I can commune with you. It is here that I will behold your glory and be changed into the image of Christ. Lord, I have made the commitment to life fully in the flow of your glory cycle in 2016. I thank you and praise you for what you are doing. I entrust 2016 to you and anticipate a great return on your investment in me throughout the coming year. Amen!
