Saturday, March 12th

(In preparation for today’s Devotional, read Joshua 24:31)

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. John 12:24-26

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

Living the Christian life at high level where it really is true that we live well for the long haul and finish strong with a lasting impact on others – that’s what we’re talking about! This is the life that comes from Christ and to have it we must give up the life that comes from self. The grain of wheat mentioned in today’s Scripture is a seed. A seed has value but it is only and always only “potential” value as long as it remains a seed. The only way the potential of the seed can be realized is for the seed to germinate and grow. This will not happen unless it falls into the earth and dies forever to being a seed. The life our passage calls on us to hate and lose is the life that comes from self. As long as we love and cling to the life that comes from self, we will remain a seed and never know the life that comes from Christ.

The one who makes the choice to serve and follow Christ is like the seed who falls into the earth and dies to being a seed. Jesus is like the earth and when we are in him, the life from Christ begins. Our roots go down deep into Christ, the shoots of growth go up, and we bear much fruit. Today’s passage began with these words, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless ….” Unless, we choose life from Christ over life from self, we will remain a seed and we will remain all alone without a fruitful life. Isn’t it wonderful that Christ has shown us the way to true life in him!

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, I choose to fall back into you, so that I might die to the life of self and come alive to the fruitful life that is found in you alone. Take me forward victoriously into a full life of serving you, so that I truly finish strong for your honor and glory, Amen!
