Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” Psalm 91:1-16
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen. 1 Peter 5:6-11
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
As we wrap up our week of Devotionals, let's go back to a verse from Monday, John 14:27, where it says, "I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid." A person who's life is filled with the peace and confidence that Christ's presence provides, is a person who will be effectively used for the work of the kingdom because they will be able to withstand the struggles and resistance that kingdom living brings.
We have so much to learn and embrace in regard to who God is and the ways he wants to help us with the living out of our lives on a daily basis. God is thrilled to have us prayerfully draw near to him so that we can experience an intimate relationship with him. It is in the intimacy of our relationship with God that we experience the transforming work of his peace and the infilling of his powerful spirit for daily living a godly and confident life. For us to experience this kind of life it is absolutely essential that we have the dependence of Psalm 91 and the humility of 1 Peter 5 above.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, help us to lean back into your restful and restoring presence. Fill our hearts and lives with your peace and confidence. Grant that we let you be everything you want to be to us. Guard our hearts from the exaltation of self and the deceptiveness of pride. Show us what true humility before you is and help us exalt you, our holy and magnificent Lord and Master.
(Because we had a surprise guest speaker this week, our Devotionals are borrowed from a previous series on Joshua)
