Serving God's Kingdom - "Christ Centered" - Tuesday, October 11th
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Colossians 3:15-17
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
You are you and I am me. You are not me and I am not you. You are nobody but you and I am nobody but me. This will never change. So, yes, your life is about you and my life is about me. But, no, your life is not about you and my life is not about me. We cannot not escape ourselves and yet we are not to live for ourselves. Where are you and where am I in this whole business of living fully for God? When we come to Christ for salvation and make the choice to surrender, are we supposed to somehow disappear? No! we do not disappear. We are still very much in the picture but now so is Christ. How does all this work?
As one’s who serve God’s kingdom we must give Christ the center place of our lives and allow him to be genuinely in charge. But we are in a living relationship with Christ who is now at the center of our lives and in charge. So, we stay in the picture and there are three things we need to understand about that: 1 – It is my life that Christ has entered into and it will always be my life; 2 – Christ never bypasses me. He loves me and always desires to be close to me; and 3 – I remain in charge in one very important way. I am in charge of consistently responding to Christ by seeking his presence, yielding to his authority, and depending on his strength.
Today’s passage is all about Christ centeredness: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts;” “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you;” “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” But today’s passage is also all about you: “in your heart;” “within you;” “whatever you do.” The “Christ Centered” life is always about Christ and you. Serving God’s kingdom is not about what you do for God. Serving God’s kingdom is not merely a partnership between you and Christ for the living of your life. Serving God’s kingdom is all about Christ living in you and through you. But Christ living in you and through you will only come about as you consistently choose to seek his presence, yield to his authority, and depend on his strength. This and only this, is the “Christ Centered” life and it is only through a “Christ Centered” life that you will genuinely serve God’s kingdom.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, it’s me and you and that’s pretty special. It’s me seeking you, yielding to you, depending on you, and letting you be fully in charge. It’s you living in me and through for your glory, my good, and the advancement of your kingdom. So be it! Amen!
