All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. 1 Peter 1:3-6
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city (Heaven) and eat the fruit from the tree of life …. The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life. Revelation 22:13-14, 17
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
Our first Scripture for today says, “we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.” This is a great statement about the assurance of Heaven. Is there any doubt that Heaven awaits us? It is not uncommon these days for people to affirm that Heaven is for real, but when asked about being in Heaven someday, they say, “I hope so.” We can be assured about the inheritance of Heaven that awaits us if we are assured about something else. The words in our first passage about having the inheritance of Heaven are linked to something said just before in the passage: “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again.”
If we are assured that we have been born again, we are assured that the inheritance of Heaven awaits us. If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, then you are born again. If you are born again, then you will inherit Heaven someday. As those who are born again our passage says, “Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance (Heaven).” This double assurance is also seen in our second passage where it says, “Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city (Heaven).” In image form, “Washing their robes” conveys our sins being washed away in Christ. When we have the assurance of forgiveness, we have the assurance of entrance into Heaven someday.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, you said, “Come” and I came. I was thirsty and drank freely from the water of life. I know that I am yours now and forever. I know I was born again through the forgiveness of sins and I know the inheritance of Heaven awaits me. I do live my life now with great expectation. I rejoice in you Lord and I am forever grateful. Amen!
