Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.” So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. Matthew 2:13-14
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
They took his advice; and after calling the apostles in, they flogged them and ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them. So they went on their way from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they kept right on teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. Acts 5:40-42
And others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised. Hebrews 11:36-39
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
Evil is never good and yet God brings about good things from the bad things that come from evil. If this were not true the bad things of life would be a mockery. But God bringing good out of evil would not be the case if were not for His seemingly endless patience. The reason for His patience is His great love for mankind and His great desire to bring more and more people into the circle of His love through the gift of His Son. He works good out of evil for these kingdom purposes and we can find great solace from such a wonderful reality. But even though there is such solace, when bad things cause suffering, that suffering is real and God cares deeply about our pain and hurt and stands ready to provide the comfort and help we need through the touch of His presence and the touch of His people.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, thank you for your endless patience. Forgive me for objecting to the difficulties I face when all the while you are simply letting this troubled world go on so you can patiently work at rescuing one person at a time. Help me remember always to rejoice that I am forever in the circle of your love through the gift of your Son. Thank you for your ongoing comfort and help that blesses my life and makes all the difference. Amen!
