So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. James 1:16-17
Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” John 5:19-24
Deliver me from bloodguiltness, O God, the God of my salvation; then my tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Your praise. For you do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; you are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. Psalm 51:14-17
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
James speaks of the good and perfect things that come down to us from our God and Father. It is important that we see the bigger picture at this point. God made us to live fully for Him. This means that He desires that sin be overcome and that righteousness be produced in our lives. The only way this can happen is if He sends to us His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus alone can accomplish everything necessary. “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” Jesus came, accomplished redemption, dwells in us by the Holy Spirit, and empowers us to master sin and choose righteousness. What a complete set of good and perfect things the Father has bestowed on us. What doth hinder us?
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I know you have given me life in Christ and that this is life indeed. And yet I am so prone to being attached to human life. I see how this makes me more vulnerable to the world’s enticements and subsequent temptation to sin. Grant that I become thoroughly attached to everything good and perfect that comes down from above from you to me. All you have given to me in Christ is just what I need to have a genuinely righteous life. Amen!
