Jesus replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37-38
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. Matthew 16:18
But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth. John 4:23-24
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
The “Living Fully” emphasis of our church is rooted solidly in the Divine intentions of Scripture given to us as God’s people. From providing worship settings where seeking people come face to face with the unconditional love of God and His people, to helping people who have found redemption in Christ to embrace a life of intimacy with God and obedience to His Word, to encouraging supportive relationships (small groups) with others that produce Christian growth and maturity, to connecting people with ministry opportunities that allow them to use their gifts and abilities in service to others – our people are guided along the path of “living fully” for God.
Jesus is the Head and builder of His church. Our responses to Him of submission and faith are the foundation upon which He builds. When we follow Him, are led by Him, and are empowered by Him, there is nothing that can overpower the church Christ is building. He is always at work building His church through true worshipers. Notice the additional contrast: Spirit and truth. When God’s people are intimately connected to God through the Holy Spirit and His truth (Scripture), God has those (people the Father seeks) with whom He can accomplish His purposes (people who live fully) through the building of the church by His Son, Jesus Christ.
There is a day waiting in the future when Christ will present the church to God in a culminating moment of completeness and perfection. In that day we will be totally like Christ in a wonderful blend of love and holiness. There is a world that needs to be reached and transformed into the likeness of Christ. To the degree that the church at large allows Christ to produce in them the blend of love and holiness He offers, to that degree the world will be reached and transformed. What a thrill it is to be a part of a church that understands, embraces, and fosters being the kind of church that Christ delights to champion.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, thank you for the work you are doing in our church (and in my life) of transforming us into the likeness of Christ. I am grateful for all you are doing to make us into worshipers who truly worship you in Spirit and truth. What a blessing to live fully for you as we follow you, are led by you, and are empowered by you as you build your church. Continue to build the right blend of love and holiness into your people everywhere so that the world is reached and transformed. Amen!
