My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. James 1:19-21
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:14-21
Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity. Ephesians 4:25-27
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
Becoming heaven-like in an earthly context is extremely difficult. What is prevalent in the world we live in is not supposed to be prevalent in us. We are surrounded by people in relationship with each other where selfish and sinful ways prevail. We are brothers and sisters in Christ and as we move along the path of becoming more heaven-like, we learn to give up worldly ways for godly ways. Picture someone who is becoming more and more aligned with God and his Word in matters like honesty, purity, truth, etc. They are aware of others who are not so aligned and they quickly try to fix them and in so doing exhibit impatience, a lack of acceptance, and anger. God and His word call us to rid ourselves of sinful, worldly behavior but also worldly ways of seeking to impact others with so called “heavenly” matters. When we see ourselves accurately without denial by allowing God to minister His word deep within our being, our relationships with believers and unbelievers alike will be transformed.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, help me be more gracious with others who don’t line up with truth in the way I think they should. Help me to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Help me be at peace with everyone. Forgive me for the times I have imposed truth on others. Thank you for your patience and graciousness with me. Thank you for never imposing your Word on me. Amen!
