"The Mind of Christ & Good News" - Monday, July 18th
And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God …. Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ …. standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel. Philippians 1:9-11, 27A&C
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
Today’s Scripture begins as a prayer and then ends in an admonition. As followers of Jesus Christ we are admonished to live lives worthy of the Gospel (Good News) of Christ. Our living worthy lives is something we do together with other followers of Christ. Our passage says that we are to be ones who are “standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” Keep in mind that followers follow. We follow in Christ’s footsteps and we do it together. With one mind we live for the faith of the gospel just like Christ did. Together we are to have the mind of Christ as his “Good New” followers.
Those who have the mind of Christ are those who live lives worthy of the Gospel of Christ. The Apostle Paul’s prayer shows us more of what is involved in living lives worthy of the Gospel of Christ. He prays that all followers of Christ will abound in love. This love will be in accord with real knowledge and all discernment. In other words, we need to have the mind of Christ. Those who do, will approve the things that are excellent so that when all is said and done they will be sincere and blameless in the day of Christ. Our passage shows us that those who approve the things that are excellent are those who become “filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, keep me from settling for anything but excellence in regard to how I live my life. Give me your mind so that the “Good News” is my heartbeat. Help me to be of one mind with my fellow believers as we strive together for the faith of the gospel. May our lives be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Christ. Thank you for such a high calling. Lord, may glory and praise come to you in abundance as a result. Amen!
