"The Mind of Christ & Humility" - Tuesday, July 19th
Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this mind in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:2-5
Today's thoughts from today's verse:
Today’s Scripture is all about a divine mindset. There is an old hymn based of our passage that wonderfully captures this divine mindset. It goes like this: “May the Mind of Christ, My Savior, live in me from day to day, by his love and power controlling all I do and say. May his beauty rest upon me as I seek the lost to win, and may they forget the channel, seeing only him.” The divine mindset is all about humility. It is the same humility that brought Jesus to earth to be the Savior of the world. However, as we see from the hymn, having the mind of Christ is not just us trying to following the example of Jesus. Rather, it is surrendering to Jesus who lives within us through the Holy Spirit so that we become channels for him to live through and bless others.
When such humility is prominent among God’s people they have the mind of Christ together. This becomes a powerful thing because love prevails, the spirit flows, and their one purpose (advancing God’s kingdom) happens. The mind of Christ transforms them into a community of people who with humility of mind, do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit and do not merely look out for their own personal interests. Rather, they regard one another as more important than themselves and they look out for the interests of others. When the mind of Christ transforms God’s people like this, the world takes notice. When the world sees Christ in God’s people, they are drawn to him and become open to the transforming message of the gospel.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I want to be this kind of person and I want to be connected with others who are seeking to be humble as well. Help me to connect with a set of other believers (small groups) where this can happen. Truly, may the mind of Christ, my Savior, live in me from day to day. Truly, may I be your channel where others see only you. Amen!
