"The Mind of Christ & Obedience" - Wednesday, July 20th
For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life. Philippians 2:13-16A
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
There is no doubt that we live in a dog eat dog kind of world. It’s not that there isn’t a lot of good in the world. It’s just that the world is not any easy place to live for God as we see in today’s Scripture, where it says that we are “in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation.” Our passage says, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing.” This is the way those who don’t know God go about living life. They are caught up in grumbling about all that happens that doesn’t favor them, serve them, and move them along in life. They are caught up in disputes with those who get in the way, interfere with, or disrupt their progress of making it to the top.
As followers of Christ we are not left here to compete in the struggle of being top dog. We are here to make a difference; to show the world there is something so much better. Notice how our passage describes the life we are called to: “prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach, lights in the world, holding fast the word of life.” Life is not about us. We are children of God who live in a tough world that needs us to be lights to show them the way to God and a way of life that really counts for something in the end.
We are talking about being obedient to what God has called us to so the we truly live fully for him. Today’s passage begins with and amazing statement that gives to us the one and only way for this to happen: “For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” It really is all about God and not us. We exist for him. His will and good pleasure need to be realized in our lives. We cannot just set out to obediently do his will on our own. Always, always, always remember that “it is God who is at work in you.” Seek him with all your heart. Learn how to experience his presence. Be filled with his life. Yield to his work of transformation. Let him shine out of your heart and life to a troubled and broken world. Live a life that really counts and makes a difference.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, thank you for the superior life you have called me to. Forgive me for all the ways I live for myself and get caught up in the rat race of life. I know you are working on me from the inside out. I am confident that I can go forward with you triumphantly. In a fresh and new way, I give myself to you today. I love you and thank you, Lord. Amen!
