The Necessity of a Savior - Christ Fixes a Lost Humanity - Monday, December 11th
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Colossians 2:13-14
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
The spectacular angelic announcement of the great good news of Christ’s birth zeros in on one all-important word: Savior. For those who have realized their need for a Savior, we read that announcement and our hearts overflow with gratitude that God intervened and sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Savior. For everyone else it remains a slap in the face. The announcement is an indictment that mankind has blown it and that God is stepping into the situation to provide the necessary fix for a very bad state of affairs.
Today many hear the Christmas story, even with important Biblical details included, and because they have been inoculated with steady doses of it over the years, they hear the word Savior and feel no slap at all. It has become to them a flowery expression that does not touch their hearts in any significant way. God desires that everyone would truly believe that they need a Savior, that the Savior was born in a manger and died on a cross, and that this one and only Savior, Jesus Christ, is their personal Savior from the devastation of sin. May this desire be significantly realized this Christmas with many, many people truly responding to the Savior in full.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, my heart does overflow with gratitude that you intervened for a lost humanity by providing a Savior. Thank you for helping me awaken to the indictment of the announcement and truly see my need for a Savior. I really was spiritually dead but you forgave my debt and made me alive in Christ. I rejoice in the Good News that the Savior was born to fix a fallen humanity. Amen!
