The Pursuit of Righteousness - Putting Perseverance First - Wednesday, August 9th

Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. James 1:3

So that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:7

For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay. But My righteous one shall live by faith; and if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul. Hebrews 10:36-39

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

A shift in life’s focus from comfort and pleasure to righteousness is vital, but maintaining that focus so that we finish strong is equally important. We are challenged with this at every turn and so our need for perseverance and endurance is huge. We think that we need to persevere at handling troubles, but in Romans Paul says that troubles bring about perseverance. What we really need is to persevere at being focused on the goal of a righteous life. When by faith we embrace troubles as the means by which God produces righteousness in us, we are able to maintain the pursuit of righteousness as our top priority in life.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, I know that this shift in focus has everything to do with being a Christian and I have changed a lot. But sticking with it and not slipping back to old ways is hard. Strengthen my faith and help me persevere in the pursuit of righteousness. Thanks for keeping the tough stuff in my life and using it to help me become the godly person you desire me to be. Amen!
