Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6
Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:1-3
Today's thoughts from today's verse:
Most people are familiar with the 23rd Psalm. It begins, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” It means that those who have the Lord as their Shepherd will be provided for us in such a way that they will never lack anything they truly need. Our first Scripture for today is the ending to Psalm 23. It shows the absolute certainty the Lord’s sheep have that his provision for them in this world and the next is complete. Look at the certainty with which the Psalmist speaks: “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” It is very simple, the Lord is present with his sheep in this life faithfully loving them and caring for them every moment of every day he gives them and then his sheep will be with him forever in the next life in his house which we commonly refer to as Heaven. This is the reality of sheep who know the certainty of their Heavenly Shepherd’s care of them in this life and the next.
Read our second Scripture again and then note what Jesus says about the reality of Heaven: “if it were not so, I would have told you.” Jesus says that his Father’s house (Heaven) has room for all those who are his followers. Jesus tells his followers that he is going back to Heaven to get their places ready. He then tells them he will come back to get each one of them and bring them to Heaven to dwell with him there forever. Jesus begins his statement about Heaven with an appeal for his followers not to be troubled in their hearts about what comes next. We can be assured that when the time come for us to give up our spirit and leave our bodies behind that Jesus will be there to wrap us in his arms of love and transport to Heaven. Yes, we will be with him forever in that glorious and wondrous place we call Heaven!
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I believe! I trust my Shepherd, my Savior, my Lord. I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Thank you for laying down your life for the sheep. Thank you for eternal life. Lord, help me to live my life here on earth in ways that truly reflect that the certainty of Heaven has given me an untroubled heart that is free to live fully for you. Amen!
