Treasures of the Heart - Radical Commitment that Overcomes the World Now - Friday, July 14th

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that he who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them. By faith they passed through the Red Sea as though they were passing through dry land; and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, were drowned. Hebrews 11:23-29

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. Titus 2:11-14

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

The Hebrews passage says that by faith Moses chose rather to endure ill treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward. There is a good way to be involved with material things here in this world, but it is only by the grace of God that this “good way” becomes our experience. As seen in the Titus passage it is God who frees our affections from the evil things of this world and redirects them to Himself. Oh, that we for a moment could grasp clearly and fully the fallacy and fantasy of viewing the things of this world as treasures. And oh, that we could grasp clearly and fully the treasure that God, His ways, and the wonders of His heavenly kingdom truly are. Never again would we “romanticize” our world today and the evils that are present in it. We would truly be focused on God and the things above and not on the things that are on earth.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, you and your ways and your heavenly kingdom are my true treasures. I am seeking you and looking to you. I am renouncing the things of earth as treasures and I am focusing on the things above. Draw me closely into the security and delight of your presence. Help me to abide there consistently and help me to always relate to material things in the “good way” of your grace and strength that allows me to overcome the world. I love you, worship you, and yield to you. Amen
