True Greatness - Fruitfulness and Rewarding Sacrifice - Friday, October 20th
Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds. Matthew 16:24-27
I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:5
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
What a great summary our first passage provides for us. The sacrifice required for true greatness is worth it all. Making fruitful disciples in which Jesus Christ reproduces His life is why He came and is very much the “difference” He is waiting to make in each person’s life. According to our second passage, staying very close (abiding) to Christ is the key to his being able to reproduce his life in us and truly make us fruitful disciples. This is the most rewarding life possible and when all is said and done, perhaps we will come to realize that whatever is given up for this very special life is not really a sacrifice at all. Will the outcome for you in the end be the great, fruitful life God has in mind for you or will you settle for something less?
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I choose die to self and all its entanglements as an act of surrender to you and your claim on my life. I am alive to what you say is a fruitful life. I welcome the work of Christ in me and through me by the power of the Holy Spirit. I go forward living in the realm of Christ’s presence and his fruitfulness. I embrace the great life and welcome the greatness of Christ unleashed within me. Amen!
