I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever …. These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you …. But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. John 14:16, 25-26, 16:7

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

In today’s verses Jesus speaks of the Holy Spirit as “the Helper.” What a fitting way to speak of him in regard to his role in our lives. After the resurrection Jesus did go away when he ascended back into heaven. Jesus did send the Holy Spirit to those who were already his disciples here on earth at that time. For us today, at the very same moment we become disciples of Jesus by trusting in him for the forgiveness of sins, we are given the Holy Spirit of promise.

Our passage tells us that he is with us forever. Yes, forever, we are indwelled by the Holy Spirit who works from the inside out teaching us all the intricacies of the godly life God’s Word calls us to, and powerfully helping us to become all that God desires for us to be and to fulfill all that He desires for us to do. The same Holy Spirit that transformed the lives of those early disciples and empowered them to impact their world in amazing ways, is at work transforming our lives and empowering us to impact our world in similarly amazing ways.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, awaken me to Holy Spirit that lives in my heart forever. Holy Spirit, here I am, ready and unafraid to go forward in my life fully in touch with you and fully in step with you. Transform my life and impact my world like never before. Amen!

Not to put pressure on you, Ken, but I'm really glad the Daily Devotionals are back.

I'm glad today to be reminded how the Holy Spirit acted to help the disciples remember all that Jesus had taught them. I'm often asked this by non-believers and now I have a verse to point to.
