O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. Psalm 63:1-5
Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me. For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me. Psalm 66:16-20
We can all relate to the images of empty and dry capturing the condition of our souls that moves us to search for God. The image of feasting, being filled, and finding satisfaction captures what we long to have happen as a result of searching for God, finding God, and being before him. God loves to respond to the prayers of those who, more than wanting solutions to their problems, want to feast on him and find satisfaction in him.
Lord, we thank you for you faithfulness to us. Help us to want you more than we want solutions to our circumstances. Help us to acknowledge our emptiness and teach us how to partake of you through prayer. Lord, grant that we might experience being filled to overflowing with your presence and unfailing love so that we would settle for nothing less from here on in.
