Union with Christ - Controlled by His Love - Monday, January 30th

For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15

Today's thoughts from today's verses:

The question of “control” is the fundamental question of created existence. The prophet Isaiah, in reference to the fall of Lucifer, said this, “How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! …. You said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north. I will make myself like the Most High.” In the form of a serpent in the Garden of Eden, Satan (formerly Lucifer) tells Eve that she and Adam “will be like God” if they will ignore God’s command and eat from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” Adam and Eve follow the same path as Lucifer and join him in the sin of putting themselves in the place of God, the sovereign ruler of the universe, the One who is in charge, who calls the shots. The prophet Isaiah shows that this rebellion extends to all mankind when he says, “All we like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way. Wanting to be in charge and in “control” in place of God is the core problem of our existence. Wonderfully though, Isaiah goes on to say, “But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him (His Son). And so now in Christ our rebellion is reversed and we live no longer for ourselves but for Him as we allow the love of Christ to “control” us. This is the focus of this week’s Devotionals.

Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:

Lord, I pray that your love for me and my love for you will be the supreme factor in my life that governs (controls) all that I am and all that I do. Have your way with me, Lord, completely, today and every day. Amen!
