Union with Christ – Yielded to His Enabling - Thursday, October 17th
Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. Romans 7:4
I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:5
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
We really were made to be “joined to another,” just like the sail needs the wind and the glove needs the hand. Jesus said that He is the Vine and we are the branches and that a part from Him we can do nothing. And the apostle Paul says that joined to Christ we bear fruit for God. What a waste to fight for control of our lives. What a blessing to be like the sail filled with the wind, the glove animated by the hand, and the branch partaking of all the resources of the vine. How easily we minimize the importance of our Divine union with the Lord and boast in our own abilities, resources, and efforts. What a healing path it is to walk with God in this way where His control (filling) becomes our constant joy, comfort, and assurance.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, I confess that far too often I rely on myself. I get it that I am joined to you so that I will rely on you and not myself. Certainly, I can do lots of things apart from you but nothing that counts. I now know that only what you do through me will count in the end. Lord, may it be that I consistently abide in you so that my life bears fruit for you like never before. Amen!
