And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. Little children, guard yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:20-21
Today's thoughts from today's verses:
God’s intention for the nation of Israel was to establish them in the “promise land” as his special people who would be wrapped up in him and in his ways. As God’s people who lived according to God’s ways, they would be distinct from the godless nations all around them. God has a “promise land” kind of life for us today. It is meant to be a life that is wrapped up in Christ and not wrapped up in the world. The life of a person who belongs to Christ should be readily distinguishable from the life of a person without Christ.
God is the Creator of all people and he has the right to be the centerpiece of every person’s life. Anything that competes with God having this place in your life is an idol for you. John warns Christians about idols just as Joshua warned Israel about idols. You must take full possession of the life you have been given in Christ so that he can take full possession of you. This is the path to living fully for God and having your life become all that he has in store for you and nothing else (idols) should prevail.
Today's prayer response from today's thoughts:
Lord, give me a passion for not wanting to fall short of knowing and experiencing you and your ways fully. Thank you for my new life in Christ and the wonderful prospect that the fullness of what Christ came for will be realized in my life. Guard me and deliver me from anything less. Amen!
