The man answered, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength,
and all your mind. And, Love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27
Today’s thoughts from today’s verse:
We saw yesterday that God’s purpose for this world is that “the whole earth be filled with His glory.” In
the beginning everything was under God’s authority and in perfect harmony with God and his ways.
However, mankind rebelled and a course for life on earth that excludes God was adopted. God’s purpose
of filling the earth with his glory begins with his work of redeeming people and filling them with his
glory. Today’s passage describes the life of a person who is under God’s authority and in perfect harmony
with God and his ways. Such a person loves God fully and other people fully. A world under God’s
authority and in perfect harmony with God and his ways is a world that is filled with his glory. It is a
world where love connects everyone with God and each other in the beauty of relationships as they were
meant to be.
Because of our sin and rebellion, we have been rendered incapable of loving God and other people fully.
This is why God’s purpose for this world is first and foremost a work of Redemption. God’s work of
redemption is a labor of love for a lost and rebellious world. We are told that “God demonstrates his own
love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” We will never be ones who love God
and others fully, until we respond to God’s love and his provision of redemption through the Lord Jesus
Christ, the Savior of the world.
Today’s prayer response from today’s thoughts:
Lord, thank you for your love and thank you for the gift of redemption. I pray that I will so know your
love in my life that I will love you and others more fully than ever before. Take away my love for
anything and everything that hinders you from filling my life with your glory and displaying it to the
world around me. Amen!
