All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

But He answered and said, “It is written, man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Romans 8:14-17

Today’s thoughts from today’s verses:

The Scriptures play a vital role in how God communicates wisdom for the life he has called us to. While the Scriptures are absolutely essential, they are not an end in themselves. They point us to Christ, the “Living Word.”  Jesus once chided the Scribes and Pharisees about searching the Scriptures while thinking that such involvement would save them. He told them that the Scriptures spoke of Him and they were not willing to come to Him. God never separates Himself from His Word and we must not do it either. We easily fall into this trap when we merely use the Scriptures as a guidebook to help us with “our” decision making day by day. When we do this, we miss God Himself. We must learn to meet God in His Word for precious times of communion and fellowship.  Communication between God and us – including instruction, guidance, correction, etc. – flows out of communion and fellowship with God and is the perfect blend of the relationship we have with both the living and written Word of God.

Today’s prayer response from today’s thoughts:Lord, keep me from becoming one of those people who have more of a relationship with Scripture than they do with you, the one whose Scriptures they are. Help me to always meet you in your Word. You are in charge of my life and the one who manages my growth as a Christian. Forgive me for all the times I have missed you in your Word as I have been busy using Scripture to manage my own Christian development. I bow before you in surrender and dependency. Amen!
