He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us …. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. 2 Corinthians 1:4, 6
And it will be said, “Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstacle out of the way of My people.” For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, “I dwell on a high and holy place, and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.” Isaiah 57:14-15
The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds …. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite. The Lord supports the afflicted …. The Lord favors those who fear Him, those who wait for His lovingkindness. Psalm 147:2-3, 5-6A, 11
Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer person is declining, yet our inner person is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:14-18
Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on Me.” For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:1-6
Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ …. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. Galatians 6:1-2, 9-10
Today’s thoughts from today’s verses:
We have established that we need to stop struggling with the fact that we struggle. The fact that struggle is inevitable helps with this but it is not enough. We need to get to the spot where we truly believe that our struggles are necessary. In regard to God, we learn that it is true that our struggles give us the opportunity to know and experience His presence in ways that we would not know and experience otherwise. God delights to manifest Himself to us in the midst of our struggles. His reviving touch comes to us as He pours into our lives all the comfort and support we need. In regard to ourselves, we learn that it is also true that our struggles prepare us for eternity. The suffering from our struggles here will produce eternal results that when revealed after we are done here will prove that it was unbelievably worth it all. And in regard to others, we learn that bearing each other’s burdens has much to do with our being able to persevere so that we do not lose heart and grow weary. The giving and receiving of encouragement and support
from each other is very much a part of God’s plan for how we make it through life victoriously in the face of our struggles and trials.
Today’s prayer response from today’s thoughts:
Lord, thank you for faithfully reviving my spirit and heart whenever I get worn down from my struggles with troubles. More and more I am grasping their value and the important role they play in my life. I am not quite ready to welcome them with open arms but I am beginning to see how they prepare me for glory. Knowing you are with me and that you use them for my good really helps. Help me to care about what others go through in the same wonderful way you care about what I go through. I worship and praise you, Lord. Amen!
