I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

Today’s thoughts from today’s verses:

When we speak of Christ being the means of our mission, we are saying that what we do must be done by Him living through us. Christ is not merely a resource that we include in our efforts to serve him. He is our source. This means that we have nothing within ourselves that is of any use in the mission of His reaching the world through us. As our source, His life in us and through us becomes the hallmark of how our mission is carried out. This is seen very clearly in the Matthew passage where Jesus says we are the light of the world whereby we let our light shine before men. Jesus does not strengthen our light but rather He is our strength and all light that shines out from us is His light (John 1). Our connection with him in this matter is like that between the Sun and the Moon. The moon has no light of its own. The only light we see from the moon is the light of the sun reflecting off the moon. We do see the moon and people do see us. But what they see needs to be the light of Christ shining out from the depths of our being.

Today’s prayer response from today’s thoughts:

Lord, thanks for making your home in my heart and life. You are the light of the world and because you live within me you can be light to the world through me. That’s my desire and that’s my prayer. Please grant that nothing about me would interfere with you shining brightly from me for all to see and be drawn to. May you truly and fully be glorified through me. Amen!
