Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked him. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you respond in the right way. But if you refuse to respond correctly, then watch out! Sin is waiting to attack and destroy you, and you must subdue it. Genesis 4:6-7

Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 1 Peter 4:1-2

Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, “Awake, sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Therefore, be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:11-17

Today’s thoughts from today’s verses:

We are called to live for the will of God. He does not want us to follow in the way of Cain. So, first of all, God’s will has to do with our having lives that overcome anger and rage. You can call anger and rage whatever you want (mad, upset, frustrated, irked, irritated, annoyed, etc.) but still this type of stuff is not what God wants in our lives. Even God’s will as it unfolds around us day by day is often the very impetus for our anger and rage. We are so accustomed to being in charge and making things happen. How frequently we overpower and manipulate the situations and people in our lives to affect the outcomes we want and how often these moments are permeated by our spirit of anger and rage. Then, if our efforts are thwarted by others, circumstances, or unknown forces, our anger and rage become full blown. God is always at work seeking to affect His will in the situations of our lives. We are not in charge. We must walk in a spirit of submission to Him and His will. As we do so, He will replace the spirit of this world, anger and rage, with the fruit of the Spirit, love, kindness, gentleness, etc.

Today’s prayer response from today’s thoughts:

Lord, I know how extremely important it is to have your will come about in my life. I also know how easily my will gets in the way and how easily it leads to anger and rage. Help me to want what you want more than ever before so that your will truly becomes my will. I know your wisdom calls me to be filled with the Spirit and to yield to the power of the Holy Spirit who will manifest the fruit of the Spirit in me and through me. So be it. Amen!
