Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:3-8
But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7
Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 2:5
Today’s thoughts from today’s verses:
Jesus said, “all men would know that we are His disciples if we would have love for one another.” That the friends of the paralyzed man loved him is obvious. No so obvious, is that their love is wonderfully connected to their faith. Why did they bring their friend to Jesus? Because of love and faith. Love – because they wanted healing for him. Faith – because they believed Jesus could do it. Jesus sees their faith and forgives the friend’s sins and then heals him. Our love for our friends must always be connected to our faith in Jesus. Our love for them will always be an expression of our desire for them to be touched spiritually by Jesus who we truly believe will do just that in wonderful and complete ways. Others around will be touched by the ministry of Christian community being lived out in this way and our “faith” will be a bridge that will lead them to Christ and the community of His people.
Today’s prayer response from today’s thoughts:
Lord, please build into me the perfect blend of love and faith. A love for you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and the world. A faith that claims your amazing work of grace in full for myself, your people everywhere, and a world of people yet to be reached. It’s all about love becoming a bridge to faith and I ask that you would grant that to be what my life is all about. Amen!
